sound #5: dog

i took this recording of a golden retriever playing with a ball in someone's yard. i decided to record him because i enjoyed the playful sounds he was making, like the leaves crunching underneath his feet and the grunts he was making as he toyed with his owner. it was slightly hard to record him due to the fact that he kept lunging at me, trying to eat the microphones.

sound #4: laundry

this recording was made in the laundry room in the basement of my friend's apartment building. i chose this one for my blog because i really like the clear sound of it. many of my outdoor recordings were windy sounding and i enjoy the clarity of my indoor ones. there was a handful of people doing their laundry at this time which made the recording fun.

sound #3: cigarette

i recorded this sound of my friend smoking a cigarette while we were waiting for the bus. it was very windy out so i hid one of the microphones and covered the other one as much as i could. the recording is kind of slow moving, but i used it over other recordings because i think it is calming; the sizzling and flicking and burning and breathing.

sound #2: popcorn

once i arrived back at my dorm after the long sound walk, i decided to make some popcorn. i thought it could be an interesting recording so i put one microphone in front of the microwave and one on the counter near where i was unwrapping the package. i edited out some of the slow parts of the recording to make it more interesting to listen to.

sound #1: operator

i saw this payphone while walking and decided to call my sister. i put one of the microphones at the receiver and one near the buttons. although, i couldn't understand how to get a line out and kept getting the operator. i believe this is my eeriest recording.

drift strategy

my drift strategy was to walk in an exact triangle from my residence hall, to my friend's apartment, and then to my other friend's apartment. i recorded interesting things i found along my journey as well as inside of the apartments and in my residence hall.
